The Father

In our work with fathers who have lost a child to adoption, some common themes are:

  • The belief of some fathers that no contact from them was the least painful option for the child
  • Guilt, due to societies perception of the separation, as the fathers abandonment of both mother and child
  • The focus of the adoption narrative is on the mother/child relationship and excludes the father
  • The general reluctance of males to talk about their feelings

Our professional counsellors are skilled in working with men who have experienced a loss of relationship with their child and understand the separation can be felt as grief and helplessness. We will help you understand your child's response as well as your own to the loss of relationship.
