Sixth Anniversary

National apology for forced adoptions logo

On 21 March 2013, the then Prime Minister Julia Gillard apologised on behalf of the Australian Government to people affected by forced adoption or removal policies and practices.

The National Apology was delivered in the Great Hall of Parliament House, Canberra.

The Apology acknowledged the pain and loss experienced by those affected by adoption. It was significant in marking and speaking of the reality of the lived experience of adoption. Six years later let's reflect and remember those still struggling with the aftermath of adoption.
